Louis Phillip Secretary
We recently completed the restoration of a Louis-Philippe secretary that had lost much of its original beauty over time. The structure was unstable, the veneer was lifting and chipped in places, and the finish had become flat and lifeless. Our first step was to stabilize the frame and reinforce the joinery, ensuring the piece was sound. We then carefully re-glued and replaced missing sections of veneer, matching the grain and tone so the repairs blended seamlessly into the original surface. The brass hardware was gently cleaned and polished, regaining its soft, golden glow. Finally, we applied a traditional French polish, which brought out the depth and warmth of the wood, revealing the rich character that had been hidden for years. The finished secretary now shines with elegance and functionality, while still carrying the authenticity and charm of its 19th-century origin.
